How to Upgrade Adams 3.3 - 4.x

Upgrading a Server Repository

A server repository is one that resides on a server. To verify the repository type run Configure Adams. You must be a local administrator to run Configure Adams. On the Configuration File tab will appear the Repository Type. Either Local or Server.

  1. This process should be done at the end of the day. This is because applications updates are pulled down from the server to workstations at 4 AM.
  2. Download the latest Updates release from: http://www.foray.com/support/downloads.php
    1. If you don't have a username and password then contact Support http://support.foray.com
  3. Backup the repository
  4. Backup the database.
  5. Make sure that no one has accessed the system since the backup.
  6. Update Configure Adams on the server running the database by running Configure ADAMS Setup.msi
  7. Run Configure Adams
  8. Click Load Central Config
    1. If a database upgrade is needed then a message box will inform you and ask you to make sure you have a backup and that no one is using the system.
      1. If a backup has been done and if no one is using the system then allow the database upgrade to continue.
      2. After this database/repository upgrade no one will be able to use the system until their software has been upgraded to the current version.
    2. If a database upgrade is not needed then the central configuration will be displayed.
  9. Exit Configure Adams
  10. Update Adams Admin on the server by running Adams Admin Setup.msi
  11. Copy the .MSI files to the C:\Inetpub\wwwroot\AdamsAdmin\AdamsUpdates directory. Note: This may be on a different server than the database.
  12. Make sure that the update files have the correct permissions
    1. Right-click the AdamsUpdates directory and select Properties
    2. Select the Security tab
    3. Click Advanced
    4. Windows 2003
      1. Check "Replace permission entries on all child objects with the entries shown here that apply to child objects"
      2. Click OK in both dialogs
    5. Windows 2008
      1. Click "Change Permissions..."
      2. Check "Replace all child object permissions with inheritable permissions from this object"
      3. Click OK in all dialogs
  13. Updates will be pulled down from this directory to workstations at 4 AM or the next time they are started if they are not powered on at 4 AM. 
    1. To force a machine to download its updates either reboot the machine or re-start the Foray Update Service.

 

Upgrading a Local Repository

A local repository is one that resides on a workstation and in which a server is not used. To verify the repository type run Configure Adams. You must be a local administrator to run Configure Adams. On the Configuration File tab will appear the Repository Type. Either Local or Server.
  1. Backup the repository. This is the directory: C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Foray Technologies
  2. Make sure that no one has accessed the system since the backup.
  3. Download the latest Updates release from: http://www.foray.com/support/downloads.php
    1. If you don't have a username and password then contact Support http://support.foray.com
  4. Install Configure Adams
  5. Run Configure Adams
  6. Click Load Central Config
    1. If a database upgrade is needed then a message box will inform you and ask you to make sure you have a backup and that no one is using the system.
      1. If a backup has been done and if no one is using the system then allow the database upgrade to continue.
    2. If a database upgrade is not needed then the central configuration will be displayed.
  7. Exit Configure Adams
  8. Install the latest versions of any other applications and modules on the system. These might include Digital Workplace, AFIS Connect, Digital Acquire, Digital Viewer
